The main stream media and our government love to blame guns, the NRA, and Republicans for the increase in school shootings, but it couldn’t be further from the truth. Every since the school shooting in Columbine, Colorado, our country has been at a loss to find the root cause behind what started the school mass shooting craze.
Let’s begin with the fact that we never had these shootings prior to Columbine and guns were in many households over the years for hunting and protection. So let’s eliminate that as a reason. What then is different now than before? Here are some of the main differences, in no particular order:
- Mothers didn’t leave home to go to work like their husbands, leaving the kids to fend for their themselves to get to school.
- After school there was always adult supervision in the home.
- We had bullying in the past but social media and big tech has taken bullying to a new level. Cell phones in the classroom should be banned.
- Students recited the Pledge of Allegiance in homeroom class teaching respect for our country and the flag. Now…not so much.
- Teaching social justice, LBGTQ flags, CRT, gender confusion, and Pride month rather than the three Rs defeats the purpose of unity but rather divides the students.
- Students never had access to marijuana like there is today after making it legal in many states. Drugs coming over the border are sold to high school kids.
- Violent video games and rap songs glorifying shooting and has led to desensitizing death.
- Hollywood movies have desensitized and sometimes glorified death.
- Lack of religion being taught to children like in the past. We attended Sunday school. Now kids have soccer and football games on Sundays.
- Schools have done little to nothing since Columbine to secure the children from violence. Metal detectors, one bulletproof ingress and egress door, and security guards should be deployed in every school regardless of rural, city, or suburbs. But they still have an attitude that this won’t happen in our community.
- Single parent homes are increasing making it hard to have adult supervision.
- The Promise Program introduced by Obama allowed for high school kids to remain in school after several incidents of violence just so they could graduate without a police record. We used to expel those kids permanently.
- Police of recent have a catch and release of criminals as well as looters so high school kids think anything goes. Which has been the case for four years.
- Doctors prescribing Ritalin to children for Attention Deficit Disorder could lead to problems as they reach adult age. We don’t know the long term effects of that drug.
- Much of the aforementioned has led to child depression which leads to violence.
- Lenient parent/s and teachers is another root cause. If there is no discipline in the home or school, there will eventually be a kid that goes haywire. Spare the rod, spoil the child.
- Parents who do have guns in the home need to hide them under lock and key in this generation; and those that don’t, need to be held libel–not the NRA nor gun shops.
- We need to be teaching “If you see something, say something.” But in our society today, I think that message has been buried by social issues like freedom to protest.
I was the last of the stay-at-home moms of my generation. My sons came home after school and sports practices to do their homework. The homes where there was no adult supervision (which were most of their friends) seemed to be an attractive nuisance once they were driving to and from school. Parents need to lay down rules that “no friends allowed in the home if a parent is not present.” Period. When the cat’s away, the mice will play. And most working parents don’t do that.
My sons never protested the war in Iraq, skipped school, nor disrespected the police. If they had, they would have been grounded. They weren’t angels by any means, but they all graduated college and had jobs in high school. One made pizzas, one sold tennis shoes, and the youngest worked at the theatre. None of them ever worked at McDonalds like Kamala brags about.
These mass shootings usually are the fault of parenting but could have been stopped at the school level. The Sandy Day Hook shooter was autistic yet his mother bought him a gun. Who does that? The Aurora Cinema shooter was inspired by a violent movie or video to shoot up the audience. The Parkland shooter was on the police radar, but they allowed him to stay in school risking the lives of many. The Christian school trans shooter committed a hate crime against her former religious school probably because they don’t condone transgender lifestyle. The list goes on and on but has increased during the loosey goosey Biden Administration.
So when the media is at a loss for why we have more school mass shootings, this is most likely why. Not guns, Republicans, nor the NRA. Keep in mind, criminals don’t follow gun laws neither did Hunter Biden. A 17-year-old thug in San Francisco just shot a 49er football player on the street in plain sight during a robbery. Where did he get his gun? It’s not gun laws, it’s society failing us. And will only get worse under a Kamala presidency.
